To replace a dysfunctional kitchen with an interesting and enjoyable work space. The original kitchen was small, dark and cramped. The space was dominated by the refrigerator, and the storage space was inadequate.

The kitchen was designed and constructed by the architect as a handcrafted object, in contrast to the standardisation of most contemporary kitchens. The refrigerator was moved out of the existing dysfunctional kitchen and recessed into an adjoining space. A restful work space with simple 'u' shape resulted.
