Clinton Hill Brownstone

A fantastically detailed, well-preserved, grand and gracious classic brownstone in Brooklyn NY. Built in 1863 and largely intact with pier mirrors at both ends of the parlor floor, 7 marble mantels, parquet floors, deep moldings a sweeping mahogany bannister ... it's awesome and has been a pleasure to restore and decorate.

An on-going project but here are some favorite rooms, corners and views.

The brownstone's parlor floor was in great condition, retaining many great details - both original (like the pier mirrors) and slightly later additions like the built-in bookcase and the mirror over the mantel. photo by Courtney Chilov

Pairing the dark wicker chair with the more stately wing chair brings, I hope, some lightness and variety to the mix rather than having a paired set. I've used another favorite suzani, again with reds, to anchor and elevate the room's second couch. The "coffee table" is an antique Korean money chest. photo by Courtney Chilov

While we held off doing a complete kitchen renovation, we did undertake some "quick" fixes that made a world of difference and opened up the space to light, the back and how the family lives and moves through the space. Specifically, we removed a partial wall with a long counter-top and deep overhead cabinets that bisected the dining room and kitchen (added-back in counter spac...More

This is the 2nd Floor landing looking from the baby's room towards the bathroom at the far end, and the stairwell up to the 3rd floor lit by the skylight above. We took up wall-to-wall carpeting on the landings and the stairs and restored the parquet, then added a sisal runner to the stairs for longevity and some grippy-ness. We also changed the light fixtures throughout (here ...More
