Boulder Creek

The original garden consisted of a kidney-shaped pool surrounded by a low concrete wall. Railroad tie steps and a pressure-treated wood retaining wall led from the house to the pool. The clients wanted a somewhat more formal garden that would complement the mountain setting and wouldn't require redesigning the pool and pool deck.

The existing low concrete wall was painted a soft sage green and capped with brick that matched the pool copping. Low, brick columns on each end and a clipped boxwood hedge add a formal touch and enclose the lush planting of California natives and drought-tolerant plants on the hill between the house and pool. The old wood retaining wall and railroad tie steps were replaced with dry stacked bluestone ledger and paving.
