Green / sustainable renovation and addition to a 1950's home. In Kahala the trend is shifting from demolition and building mcmansions to major renovations which retain the character of Kahala and Hawaii. This renovation of a mid-century modern home is seen as an opportunity to refurbish and enhance the qualities of a piece of Honolulu's lesser known contemporary history. Indoor/outdoor living experience was enhanced, natural ventilation was improved, 75% of the existing structure was saved as well as 75% of the siding was removed and reused. Renovations are a highly sustainable green building practice.
