Great Room Fireplace

2011 Honorable Mention [Detail]: Cincinnati Design Awards

The fireplace had been treated much like he stylistic collage of the existing house. Like any static decoration, the mantle was one of many components added to adorn the non-descript space.

Leaving the firebox untouched, the new fireplace components (hearth, hearth extension, and mantle) work in symphony to anchor the room. A strong horizontal grained stone plays against the newly emphasized chimney mass and leads the eye to the exterior. Careful detailing, joinery and collaboration in the field help to seamlessly integrate the object into the architecture.
