The artist's studio was built as a new free-standing, two-story structure adjacent to an existing house and against an existing concrete retaining wall. The Corten steel exterior cladding installed on the upper level plays off the original home's galvanized steel siding. The interior post and beam glulam framing is daylit by two overhead skylights, allowing solid wall space to be maximized for art display and privacy. A mezzanine with steel grate flooring wraps the upper gallery level and connects by a ship's ladder to the lower level library and exterior courtyard.
