Whole House Remodel #126

2003 Remmie Merit Award for Kitchen Remodel
Featured in the January 2004 Contra Costa Times Home & Design Magazine

Square footage was a premium in this small home, so the challenge was to create a well functioning and attractive kitchen with minimal encroachment into the dining and family room part of the great room. The clients wanted a lot of architectural detail and pizzazz! This has been incorporated into the design through the wood beam that intersects the purple column, the niches in the column, the triangular bar, the pendant lighting and the bamboo hardwood and accent trim. Color was used for added pop!

Initially the entry was cramped and small. With a long and narrow space that was difficult to use. New Octagon shaped room and skylight enhanced the entry, providing a greater sense of space and openness.

The shape of the existing bathroom was unusual with a separate jacuzzi/hot tub room and a cramped and dated sink shower, and toilet area. We were able to integrate the two individual spaces and create an open, well-designed master bath. There was room to now create a larger shower and a spacious two-sink vanity. In addition, by capturing some of the original wasted bathroom space, the walk-in closet was made larger and we were able to relocate the entrance as per the clients’ request.
