Major Interior Remodel, San Carlos, CA
2,350sf, 3 BR, 2 BA Single-story residence. Whole house interior remodel.

What started as shower tile repair lead the young family to rethink the entire core of the home. The existing family room was too small and disconnected from the view of the front yard, where the children frequently play in the cul-de-sac. The kitchen was small, dark, inefficient and isolated from the dining room. The solid double door entry facing the street, opened into a dim, featureless hallway foyer serving the garage and leading to the bedroom hallway.

The solution featured shifting the entry door to the side of the porch and replacing the former door pair with a large picture window looking into the new dining room, formerly the foyer. The axis of the entry window and dining room now terminates under the skylight of the new kitchen island, thus, from the island, views of the family room, dining room and front yard are clear. The former dining room and kitchen were removed to expand the family room. Now, double French glass partition doors share natural light, ventilation & access between the living room and family room.
