After one of the largest apartment fires in Boston’s recent history, my good friend was homeless with most of his belongs in ruin. Water and smoke damage were the most to blame, leaving no choice but to completely gut the existing interior along with multitudes of other apartments in the building. Through eighteen months of constant controversy with everyone from the management company, condo association and two insurance companies, I assisted him in reconstructing his life architecturally. We worked together with the parties involved to create a new living space that reflects his personal ascetic and functional needs. The kitchen being the most difficult to achieve given the limited space of only 8 feet 7 inches. Despite its small size, it is fully functional with everything you would expect to find in an urban kitchen.
