Craftsman Character
by Ginkgo Leaf Studio
Wisconsin Landscape Contractors Association - 2012 Bronze Award for Excellence in Residential Landscape Design and Construction.
The design goal for this project was to tie our client’s Craftsman-style home to the landscape, with a focus on low maintenance. To create a more interesting front walk, patterned flagstone was set in overlapping panels. Outlined with brick soldier courses, they interlace where the panels overlap. The existing rear patio had poor circulation, and the space needed more definition. The patio was expanded by designing a retaining wall with over-sized coping, allowing for deeper planting beds. An intricate pattern of brick frames the contrasting flagstone around the fire pit patio, enhancing its view from the deck above.

To expand the backyard space, a dry-stacked Chilton stone retaining wall was built on the existing slope. Two interlocked courses wide, it is capped with custom 4” thick buff Lannon coping.
