A Western Run Residence
This home organizes a site with great views but little other distinction (open pasture with no trees). The plan stretches into a U-shape to create an entry court-like space off a shared driveway. This configuration also creates the opportunity to provide a varied, every-day journey from the first-floor Master Suite at one end of the plan to the Family Room and Kitchen at the other end. The journey's counterpoints progress from a walk down a hall long enough to be enlivened by an alternating rhythm of windows and bookshelves into a restful Foyer lit by stained glass and then into a bright Family Room with expansive views to the landscape. The use of rich materials, including reclaimed timber beams and stone, and careful craftsman-like detailing throughout helps keep a large house warm, tactile, and humanly scaled.
