Tip top taupe

by Matthew MacCaul Turner
Finding the perfect home in San Francisco can be challenging. Even when you have the funds and the time, the best neighborhoods, and best homes have a slim turnover. This project started with my client purchasing a view unit in a very good deco highrise, on sought after Nob Hill. Views of the Golden Gate, with it's famous silvery fog were a welcome site, after 30 years of living in Sacramento's blazzing sun & heat. However, the accolades stopped there. The unit was a mess, with a tiny galley kitchen (my client is a master cook) dirty, small bathrooms, insufficient storage, and outdated everything. We completely gutted the unit, and reorganized, opening up the space, while maintaining the traditional feel. Eight foot tall double pocket doors connect the kitchen, dining/living, and guest/study. The cool gray and taupes of the view inspired our palette. The result is a beautiful and perfectly functioning home, with gourmet kitchen, glamorous baths, room for a guest, and home office. Now the home holds its own, with it's tony addres, and views that inspire.
