Severn River Residence

This project involves the design of a new house within an existing comm unity of traditional homes. Inspired by its architectural context, the house aims to simply fit-in, while updating the local, traditional architectural form to accommodate the functional needs and lifestyle of a young modern family. Designed as a traditional main block with symmetrical wings, the house embraces the sequence of entry with two projecting, hyphenated, pavilions housing a guest suite and a mudroom. The garage is located out of sight, around to the side under the main house, allowing the street elevation to reinforce the existing scale and context of the neighborhood. Along the waterfront, all major spaces open up to panoramic water views through generous windows, French doors, and porches.
