This mid-century modern home resides in an older neighborhood surrounded by hilltop vistas. Our clients recognized the home’s potential and hired us to restore the landscape back to its modern lines using contemporary materials. The residential renovation began by selecting a new house color to serve as a complementary backdrop for the newly conceived landscape. A new entry experience to the home was designed to reduce the driveway’s foot print, which created space for the meandering front entry steps. The entry steps where designed as a twist to play on the horizontal lines of the home.
Three new patios were designed with each having its own individual planting style that could be viewed from the interior spaces. The first garden was designed with a native planting, the second with an Asian planting and the third designed for bird watching. The balcony was redesigned in a Brazilian hardwood with cable railing, reinforcing the horizontal lines of the architecture and uniting the house to the Ipe wood screen near the street.
