The Yard That Has Everything
This family loves to entertain. By design, the adult-end of the landscape includes the fireplace, kitchen, dining area, and water features (other than the pool). The kid-friendly end of the back yard includes the pool, fire pit (s’mores are a favorite), and a putting green. Landscape Designer, Tim Johnson won four awards for this project - one from the Mn Chapter of National Assocation of the Remodeling Industry (NARI) for Residential Exterior in 2012, the second (in the same category) from the Regional NARI, a Gold Award from Professional Remodeler Magazine-Design Awards 2013 and the most recent is a Recognition Award from PLANET (Professional Landcare Network).
Casual Outdoor Living
This space provides some relief from the late afternoon sun....or just a spot to relax after a dip in the swimming pool or hot tub.
An Outdoor Space for Every Mood
Fire pit patio, poolside seating, easy access to the hot tub. Note how the plant beds provide the separation between the different outdoor living spaces.
Outdoor kitchen with grill and refrigerator and plenty of storage space. A perfect gathering place right next to the pool. The basalt water feature is close enough to the outdoor dining area and indoor family room to hear the water.
Easy Access Kitchen
Whether coming down the deck steps or out the door from the lower level, the traffic flow through these outdoor living spaces is easy.
A True Outdoor Living Room
Just at one end of the swimming pool is a fabulous outdoor living room The fireplace and pergola design incorporate architectural elements from the home. The pergola and fireplace had to be engineered and from 5' below grade to 9' above, it is one structure! Note there are no posts at the front of the pergola....posts that would have interfered with the living space and traffi...More
Multiple Outdoor Living Spaces
Veneered-stone on the kitchen matches the home's exterior. Raised planted is wide enough to also serve as a seat wall/bench. The living room space just beyond the kitchen is placed close to the hot tub and pool action.
An outdoor dining table is off to one side but close enough to the kitchen. This back yard can accommodate a large number of family and friends.
Within View of the House
Mom and Dad can keep an eye on the kids as they play on the putting green. One of the sons has enrolled in golf lessons. Practice, practice, practice!
For The Kids
At one end of the pool is an in-ground fire pit. This family loves s'mores on cool Minnesota evenings.
Flagstone Steppers Access
A simple flagstone path through the lawn from the front of the house makes it easy for the neighbors to come calling.
A Lake View with No Windows
Providing a little shade, the pergola structure was hoisted into the back yard by crane and welded to the support posts. The support posts were then wrapped in veneer stone and cedar to match the support posts for the deck at the back of the home. Note the outdoor lighting in the rafters which highlight the stonework on the fireplace. What a spot to be in the evening!
Putting Green with a View
Rather than a basketball or tennis court, this family opted for a putting green. Different hole locations and an undulating green make it challenging. As you can see, you could chip in from a distance!
