Division Knoll Residence

by Sagan / Piechota Architecture
Perched on a windswept knoll, overlooking the Pacific, with views of two of Big Sur’s most striking bridges, this residence was designed as a weekend retreat to maximize the experience of the panorama and resist the elements with minimal maintenance. The owner required a five bedroom, 5000 square-foot, residence utilizing an existing foundation. An attached caretaker quarters and garage were added. The owners requested that the bedrooms be large enough to act as living spaces or suites and that the experience of the surroundings be accessible from each room. A sense of seamlessness between indoors and outdoors with a minimum of visual clutter was desired.
