Brockway Residence

This 4500 square foot house is dug into a small site located in a neighborhood that requires homes to have exterior materials and an aesthetic consistent with the neighboring “old Tahoe” cabins. Our goal was to synthesize that language with a modern architectural language, thereby creating a new Tahoe architecture.
The house is organized into two interlocking forms over a basement garage maximizing the views found on the upper part of the site. ls. Rather than detailing the house with a taut skin, we used exposed heavy-timber construction and created a variety of surfaces and textures to articulate the major forms.
