Modern Kitchen with Glass Island in Arlington

A challenging small kitchen space; the clients wanted to keep the grey ceramic tile floor for budgetary reasons, so all the new pieces had to work with that. Also, in this compact space they wanted seating for 4...the solution: a glass bartop suspended over the small central island. The glass consumed no visual space, and the kidney shape of the bartop softened the hard angles of the floor tile and bay window; matte cherry european cabinetry and local Virgina Mist granite countertops; mixed mosaic of stone and glass backsplash and glass hood lend a natural yet modern feel; the sink was moved from a formerly crowded position too close to the refrigerator, and the range was also moved to provide more contiguous counter space; an over-the-range microwave was employed not at the range, and to its right a custom double pull-out pantry with Hafele ball-bearing mounted racks provides tremendous storage capacity in a small space.
