Penthouse at Meridian Crescent
by FORMA Design
In this 1900sf 2 bedroom 2 1/2 bath penthouse duplex in the Meridian Crescent, FORMA’s task was to bring the builder quality space up to par with its potential: the great location, magnificent views and ample size of the apartment were unfortunately not matched by the quality of the materials and lighting, while the flow of space and functionality were lacking. FORMA opened up the kitchen to the rest of the entertainment area, and introduced custom millwork to house a flat-screen TV monitor and AV equipment, guest coat closet and storage. The large wasted space at the upstairs landing was turned into a study for the owners; all bathrooms were redesigned with upgraded finishes and lighting, and the Master bedroom was upgraded with a custom built bed. The final result does justice to the magnificent light pouring in and views of the city beyond, and turns a banal space to a memorable experience.

The custom millwork and quartz countertops have turned a previously wasted space on the landing of the stair into an office area for the owners. A glass display shelf features the owners' glass vase and dish collection. Light pours in from the master bedroom suite and the guest suite, as well as from a skylight above the stair. The custom millwork wall houses the flat screen TV monitor, while accommodating all the AV equipment, coat closet and DVD/CD storage, as well as halogen lighting that lights the art wall. The two-tone design blends the two different species of woods appearing through the house and complements the dining room table and chairs. Photograph by Geoffrey Hodgdon.

The master Bathroom features double "trough" object vanities on top of a quartz countertop. The custom wenge cabinets float above the terrazzo floor, which continues into the walk-in shower. Glass tiles line the shower wall. A counter-to-ceiling continuous mirror reflects the room and makes it feel twice as big, making for a dramatic setup. Photograph by Geoffrey Hodgdon.

The custom bed headboard with the side floating nightstands commands the one side of the bedroom. In addition to pendant lights above each nightstand, there is a series of hidden lights in the cove behind the bed. A full-size mirror leans against the wall; a white shag rug defines the area under the bed and provides a contrast to the dark wood floors. Photograph by Geoffrey Hod... more »
