Noel Residence

Achieving the perfect balance of openness and intimacy…

Situated on two-plus acres, this 3,200 square foot residence was designed to reflect the client’s desire for a minimalist home in which they could equally live and entertain. The concept of the layout was to create a separation of these functions architecturally, yet to tie the overarching design together with light, form, and repetition. The floor plan reflects these considerations with a distinct delineation between public and private areas. The public wing, or entertainment area, is designed with 16-foot ceilings, clerestory windows, and sliding glass doors, which all provide a sense of openness and light within the interior spaces and expansive views onto the pool terrace. An open seating area connects the pool with the home while offering shade from the hot Florida sun. The pool features a 5 cm-deep beach area that is ideal for relaxation.

The private wing is designed to look inward and away from the public areas so that members of the family can relax without interference while the entertainment area is in use. Further addressing the client’s request for seclusion, the home intentionally faces away from the busy street and onto the open pool terrace. Through the use of green building materials, the owner’s request for an energy-efficient home was achieved - formalized by an award from the Florida Power and Light Gold Star certification for energy efficiency.
