Las Canoas Remodel
by Allen Associates
The main objective of this residential remodel was to remove interior walls between four cramped, dark spaces – a living room, dining room, family room and kitchen – to create an elegant “grand room” filled with natural light. New energy efficient windows and a large nano door create strong connections between indoor and outdoor living spaces. New white oak floors were installed throughout. Instead of incorporating thousands of dollars in structural steel, the existing support columns remained and were boxed with ¾ inch solid white oak veneer to match the floors and kitchen cabinetry. Two existing fire places were refaced with gray plaster and turned into balanced focal points on opposite sides of the room. (Architect: Richard Warner)
