St. Francis Wood

The house was originally designed by Henry Gutterson in 1923. This project began as a simple bath remodel and ultimately compounded into a complete renovation. The couple required casual, low maintenance interiors that would accommodate their three dogs and occasional visiting relatives from overseas. One of the homeowners is English and it seemed fitting to have the interiors inspired from an English cottage. A color palette of jewel tones was requested along with comfortable furnishings in rich textures. Luxurious fabrics and detailed trims played a key role in the design of custom window treatments.
This same homeowner has a career in book publishing and arrived with an extensive collection of literature requiring many linear feet of storage. Floor to ceiling built-in bookcases were created in the combined Living Room/Library.
Green building techniques were utilized including cellulose insulation, solar panels, Solatube skylights and a Unico heat pump system.
A successful collaboration of architect, interior designer and contractor created a home the clients were immensely pleased with and will enjoy for years to come.
