New House - Southport, CT

This project involved the design and construction of a traditional home equipped with modern conveniences without sacrificing historical authenticity that also contributes and complements the historic fabric of the surrounding harbor area. Designing and constructing this house was very complex due to the odd shape and topography of the property and proximity of the harbor’s water. A challenge was balancing historical authenticity and incorporating of modern technology. The project employs geothermal heating and cooling, and locates all pool equipment inside the outbuildings. The pool and terraces have been located to limit their visual impact to the property and the views of the harbor, the stone walls were used to eliminate the need for pool fencing and provide a plinth for the house. Removing the garages from the program needs of the main house, allowed the main house to have a smaller footprint and mass, and respond in a sensitive nature to the historical authenticity of a period house.
