NORTH PORTLAND BASEMENT

This 1911 residence reinvented its living quarters by remodeling its unfinished basement. The central chimney, previously utilized solely for venting the furnace and hot water heater, was removed to create an open, multi-functional space. A closet docked to an exterior wall houses the side-venting high-efficiency furnace, and an on-demand hot water heater provides superior function while maximizing available floor space. While the open room serves many needs, its primary purpose is that of a Family Room, creating a conscious separation between the television zone and the daytime active areas on the main level. Other notable features include a Laundry Room located directly below the Master Closet, allowing the vertical connection of a laundry chute, and a Wet Bar perfect for entertaining.
