Romantic Roman
A Wife’s Dream Bathroom Unveiled

This new master bathroom in a traditional Studio City home started as a series of chopped-up spaces that served as guest baths for two adjoining rooms. A four-month renovation gave the wife the romantic Roman bath she had been dreaming of, one that fits perfectly with the Italian style of the couple’s house.

Like many clients, they were overwhelmed at the prospect of creating an entirely new bathroom, but they had spent a lot of time thinking about what they wanted—a lavish bathroom with lots of stone and green tones—and how they wanted the room to function.

The wife wanted a private bath for herself with a large soaking tub, a vanity with ample storage, double sinks and access to her closets. And her husband, who uses the original master bath as his own, wanted a steam shower. He is tall, so we provided a space where he could shower and still have ample room to sit and relax.

Renovation Features:

-The floors, vanity, and walls are crema marfil, with hand-made green field tile from Walker Zanger.
-A lighter green onyx was used for an inlay on the floors with some detail in the shower and over the tub.
-The walls have custom fabricated raised marble panels, marble wainscoting, and marble crown and base moldings.
-We installed radiant heat under the marble floor for warmth at all times.
-We raised the ceiling and installed an oval dome finished in a creamy Venetian plaster to create more volume and formality.
-The main light fixture is an antique bronze chandelier with alabaster shades; on either side of the oval bath panel and vanity are nickel sconces with custom parchment shades.
-The custom vanity is stained a darkwalnut with polished nickel fixtures by Rohl.
