Wilmette | Historic Preservation

Intimacy was created in a space with soaring dimensions in the historic renovation. A warm and cozy ambiance was established without stripping the building of its history through the marriage of compelling architecture, thoughtful nooks and design features.
Historic Restoration
Compelling and interesting architecture was maintained in this historic restoration through existing colonnades and ribbed vaults. An ornate window was also left in the space for authenticity. Designers wanted to celebrate the architecture and not mask it.

Contemporary Living Room
Taking cues from features that would likely be found within liturgical architecture, the designers detailed the sliding panels and millwork to provide context to both form and function. The unique home gives homage to rich historic beauty.

The opulent rug is meant to appear as though some of the detailed paintings on the ceiling are being cast as a shadow through the actual gold leaf detailing on the walls. Multiple seating spaces were created on the single rug.
