Cozy outdoor living space

The owner’s desire was to create a cozy outdoor living space with a water feature, fire pit, herb and vegetable garden, and grilling area. The challenges were many; water drainage, access to the desired project area, and weather.

The natural, Scavis stone from Turkey was chosen for the patio and walks. The stone was a cut full dimensional pattern and tumbled. Due to the colder climate, the stone needed to be grouted to fill in small holes and to ensure a very neat and clean finished look. For the water feature we designed a multi-faceted system to carry the water to different areas. By using a 1” hammer drill, holes were drilled through weathered limestone boulders. Water could then tumble down the boulders from three sides in multiple locations creating a soothing atmosphere as you relax on the patio. The fire pit was installed with a gas log starter. Conduit was buried and outlets installed throughout the landscape.

A large piece of weathered outcropping cantilevered over the pond from the patio to better observe the Koi as they swim about. Phase I of the landscaping was installed in the undulating planting beds with irrigation for the beds, lawn and drip irrigation for the containers.
