"Grit and Beauty" - The art of the train industry
In my series "Grit and Beauty", shapes and atmosphere draw me to the scene. Once there, I find something intense and energetic about the industrial American landscape both in urban and in rural settings I enjoy using patterns, color and composition to explore the beauty in the obvious and the implied. The resulting works are voyeuristic commentary on the role of ‘train’ in economic development. Each work is a portrait of place as seen through my own multicultural lens and uses the train to symbolize the transfer of ideas, cultures, products and people from one place to another.
