clerestory windows. pros, hard for people to look into, very cool and different looking. Cons, don't add a lot of light or energy, more for the looks. I would put these windows across the side of my house.

Awning. Pros- Subtle ventilation, simple, brings in fresh air, cannot access from the outside. Cons- you could forget to close it, hard to open and close since they are high up. This would suit an office well, or a kitchen.
