This is a quartzite countertop - the name will change depending on the fabricator/supplier. The is a natural product that is a little harder to come by and acts like granite in terms of maintenance (although if you drop things on the edges it is prone to chipping). Just ordered slabs of diamond pearl quartzite. Supplier says its harder than granite and doesn't need to be sealed. I am seeing conflicting answers and want to be clear so it doesn't etch. Thanks so much!

If your countertop etches (anything but marble/limestone/travertine--all of which contain calcite and etch the stone versus the surface) try a poultice of baking soda and water to see if it gets the etch out. if it does, it means the surface (not the stone) etched. I would recommend asking your local stone vendors for super white quartzite
on the countertops and pearla quartz on the island. My cabinets are sprayed white dove, from Ben Moore and revere pewter I used on the walls. We get lots of light.
