Have an electrician come out and look at your ceiling. Retrofitting recessed cans takes more space than new construction. That doesn't mean you can't do it, but it might take some creativity.

These light fixtures are referred to as "can" or "pot" lighting. They all have individual housings, and are nicest (as you see here) when used with GU10 Halogen bulbs for a less harsh light.

and with light use they are doing fine. My main concern is the base because It is not stainless steel, but chrome. I can already see fine lines from where the broom has brushed over it so I am now careful to avoid broom contact. If I had to purchase them all over again I would, though. Hope this helps!
