vylc - thanks! It is reclaimed barnwood from a barn being taken down in Silverton, OR built in the 1920's. It was used on the floating shelves also. I purchased it through Aurora Mills Architectura Salvage. http://www.auroramills.com/
built. The wood I chose was knotty Alder, which has lots of visible rustic knots, and details.
The stain is a bit complicated. It is a charcoal stain, then very lightly sanded, and coated with a very lightly brown tinted laquer and then a clear laquer.
