vylc - thanks! It is reclaimed barnwood from a barn being taken down in Silverton, OR built in the 1920's. It was used on the floating shelves also. I purchased it through Aurora Mills Architectura Salvage. http://www.auroramills.com/

We are planning a kitchen remodel and are trying to decide to create a pass-through island/counter UNTIL I came across this idea -- I'm interested in your thoughts comparing pass through vs. framing out the space like you did here...

It's a mixture of old reclaimed barn wood. Douglas fir, pine, etc.
