Questions1
Additions of retaining walls, walkway, gardens and fencing details completely transformed the front yard. All photos by Elaine M. Johnson.
Given the freeze/thaw effects in this climate, here did you locate drainage points behind this wall, and where do they exit? How tall is this wall at it's highest point? Thank you.
, the wall is approximately 3' at its highest point. Because of the minimal hgt. and the soil profile on the Cape_ssandy and not a heavy soil, no weep holes were required.

north wall of that building and the part of the living pavilion across the way.
Once again we see grasses used as a terraced ground cover, but here they are used to soften the uncompromising Cor-Ten steel retaining walls. The height and color of the grasses are perfectly in harmony with the rust

this rock wall using the natural weight of the rock? Or is it using some kind of mortar? Any concerns with drainage? Thx, Tiffany
I asked this same question on another photo. Thanks for your response! I love the organic forms and tiered garden. Really nice.
This is a dry stack wall. No mortar is used. It does have a french drain behind the walls for proper drainage.
The pathway and placement of garden. Also how the rock wall is tied in.
A stone retaining wall can enlarge some of the level areas for more usability.

in your photo - for reference purposes what is the length and width of the grassed area? Thanks!
Our dry-laid natural stone retaining wall is being "reorganized". The mesh fabric
stack wall and have some retaining properties, we typically start by pouring a concrete footing. We then begin stacking the stone, as the wall rises we pour a solid concrete wall behind the stack stone reinforced with re-bar, grouting back of stones into new concrete wall. This will lock the stones
the walls are made from broken concrete recycled from old patios. Thanks!
