The rock I used to cover the planting beds, which we call rock mulch, is a ¾ “ drain rock. Drain rock is usually available in most parts of the country in a variety of sizes. Rock Mulch, or Decorative Landscape Rock is often sold at landscape supplies business and can also vary greatly depending the
particular rock is unique to an area southwest of Spokane and comes from several different quarries. It is a natural glacial tilled basalt aggregate that is screened and offered in a variety of sizes and used mostly for construction purposes. I have always preferred this rock over the granite aggregates
Decorative Rock available. It has more texture and a neutral color that reminds me of some of the rock used in the gardens of Kyoto. Certainly not an exact match but similar feeling. I also like the fact that it’s local and not imported from out of our area. - Tom Musselwhite

River rocks come for rivers, and so here in the San Francisco Bay Area, this house is in Menlo Park, the rocks came from a local stone supplier (Lingso) and probably came from the California Sierras.
