Fireplace in Great Room with wood paneled ceiling
putting a stone fireplace (floor to ceiling) in our new home. Our builder says we don't need to finish the edges of the fireplace (it won't wrap all the way to the wall) . It seems like edges would be rough. Is that common or do most do a slight wrap to cap it off. Thanks!

if the open part of the panels are approximately 36" x 36" square. You can see on the first full panel on the left side of the picture that it is roughly as wide as 3.5 treads (typically 10"-11") and as tall as 4.5 risers (typically 7"-8"). I hope this helps! Adam Schmitz Terra Nova Construction
depending on your desired look. For example to create this look you could use 5/4" x 6" birch wood to frame the raised panels, and then trim the inside edge of each square with cove moulding as a transition piece. You can apply this directly to drywall if it will be painted, or you will have to use 1/4"

custom valances were from the previous owners and I'm not particularly fond of plaid and this flower print. If I simply remove them, it leaves the walls rough where hardware is. Kitchen is large with lots is light and the valances are hung higher than the actual windows and their are duet shades on them. Honest
I like the style of cabinetry and detailing at toe kick edges.
