The Hill Kitchen is a one of a kind space. This was one of my first jobs I worked on in Nashville, TN. The Client just fired her cabinet guy and gave me a call out of the blue to ask if I can design and build her kitchen. Well, I like to think it was a match made in heaven. The Hill's Property was out
traditional white with brown glaze the island is just another added feature. What makes this kitchen is all the details such as the collection of dishes, baskets and stuff. It's almost as if we built the kitchen around the collection. Photo by Kurt McKeithan
out in the country and she wanted a country kitchen with a twist. All the upper cabinets were pretty much built on-site. The 150 year old barn wood was stubborn with a mind of it's own. All the red, black glaze, lower cabinets were built at our shop. All the joints for the upper cabinets were joint together

this kitchen build is so unique. being in South Africa, how can I get it when I'm ready to do so?
We would like to have a range installed into an island with a wood top, but both our builder and kitchen designer are concerned. They are encouraging us to put stone around the range. How is your range installed and do you have any problems or regrets
hundred yr old barn wood. I believe it could be fabricated here in Santa Barbara. Put into a container and shipped to you. It's not uncommon for kitchen cabinets to be sent from Europe to the US. Why not the US to South Africa if you have the budget I'd be happy to figure it out. Let me know.
In our area, for residential kitchens you are not required to have a hood. If you have cross ventilation and don't do a lot of frying etc... a hood isn't required. We chose not to because

Rustic kitchen with mesquite counter top and period lighting. Photo by Corey Kopishke
The perimeter of the cabinetry is a (new) rustic cherry with a stain and glaze and a matte sheen finish. The island is a (new) soft maple with a vinyl base coat paint with a matte sheen. The finish
reclaimed material. The island counter-top is mesquite which is a very gnarly material and has a ridiculous amount of character. I have attached another kitchen we did with a red vinyl base coat finish.
