It is hinged and can swing in and out. It does not hit the toilet as the height of the tub sill is higher than the toilet.

whatever size board worked. Looks like they used l" wood for windowsill and left and inch at either end. Underneath window is a lx4. I used l l/4" for sill. It's a preference.

your shutter color should blend with the color or stain of the trim. I suspect that this window has only wallboard around the window and only wood sill. I think this shutter color looks great in this room. I've been in the custom, higher end shutter business for a long time and have done lots of
