Cottage Garden with Curb Appeal
Goodbye to grass! A colorful palette of long-blooming perennials, shrub roses and ornamental grasses create a charming front yard cottage garden, brimming with curb appeal.
I have a small front yard with overgrown bed that need to be removed and grass in the rest of the yard. How difficult/costly would it be to pave the walk way, remove the grass and existing plants and install this garden look?
material selection and plant sizes. Our client loves to garden and so we left some areas bare for her to fill with what she wished. This particular front yard took a crew of 4 men about 4 days to install, from start to finish.
for a clean palette. We pave, then plant, then finish with mulch and compost. You could look into DIY stores to get an idea of paver costs and attend seminars on installation. A front walk is used a lot, so careful installation is important. This is a look that can be adapted to your taste and budget-

area (complete with two charming turquoise Adirondack chairs and a small side table) serves the same purpose as a front porch, providing bonus seating to the two benches on the entry threshold of this traditional home. This side yard treatment is both attractive and neighbor friendly." Debra Prinzing
"The circular seating area links a large side yard with the equally large front yard, giving both a raison d'etre. The rounded "carpet" of crushed stone has some nice detailing, including the block edging and the flagstone path that cuts through it. Not too casual; not too formal. Definitely inviting
What plants are in the design in front of the windows?

What color are the shutters and front door?
I recognize some of the plants, but what are behind the hydrangeas on the right side in front of the house? I just love the yard. Well done
What are the plants in front and back of the fence?
I have a white picket fence and I am looking for ideas.
What are the stones for the front walkway and how were they laid?
jfjchastain, thanks for your question. The plants in front of the fence are a mix of day lilies and daffodils - the ones behind the fence are red twig dogwood and Limelight Hydrangea. Hope this helps. Good luck with your project! Robert Welsch Westover Landscape Design, Inc.

Trees are Eucalyptus that will destroy the pictured walkway and curbing within 10 years....complimentary to new landscaping and a few years following, but a disaster to hardscaping. I had 35 Eucalyptus trees on my property of the size pictured when I moved in 35 years ago, only 4 remain

Its a great front entry idea
Love the idea of a no grass front yard
The plants fit perfectly with the house style as well as with the gardening conditions. A typical front lawn would be less effective visually, plus a lot more work.
The style of your no-lawn landscape should reflect the architecture of your home.
