This can be avoided by trimming the fruit out of the tree before it fully forms or ripens. This tree is evergreen and is a wonderful shade tree for small or large gardens if pruned accordingly. I have never seen any type of thorns on this tree. Perhaps another tree such as a Coral Tree (Erythrina) is
