Hi, I think the crown is 3.5 inch. We first attached a small piece of wood to the top of the wardrobes, and then nailed the crown to that. Hope that helps. :)

MDF is usually less expensive than solid wood but when painted, looks much like smooth wood, without the grain pattern.
