How do the building codes allow you to build a stair like this without a gaurdrail on the open side?
How was this stair constructed? Does it have a steel structure that holds the stairs concealed
We are installing similar stairs. The wood boxes were glued to the metal treads, but now the wood is splitting and joints are separating. Can it be caused by temperature differences
we have a stair project in Illinois and would like to know how the treads are attached to the wall - using steel embedded in concrete wall? did you use a stair 'system' or all made custom?
Character grade hickory floors, the stairs would be select grade. Hope that helps you :-)
The stairs were inspected and passed City inspection and met all local codes. The original design had a glass panel

I love the stairs! I'd like to build similar ones in our home. What are they called? and how is the structure different from stringers?
