super cool steel. KW builders did something like this on one of their project houses we toured....
exposed steel beam and column at kitchen island
Beam and similar layout with island
Similar layout with beam support and island
just becasue I talked about I beams for the corners
columns, one beam) framing happens in this example, where a large opening between the kitchen and dining is formed from steel in line with the wall. Note how the detailing of the beam-column connections give an industrial appearance to an otherwise minimal interior.
hii am just startin my architecture design....hows it dt u decide the span, depth and general dimensioning when its steel columns and beams??
to do steel and wood structural systems myself if I keep them simple. - steel is extra simple because there is only one species. But most architects do hire structural engineers - I sometimes do just to check my numbers
There are rules of thumb for structural steel design. Consult one of those
exposed steel beams after talking with Adam my architect
Maybe put a bamboo like mat in between the beams and paint it white
open with Steel beams cantilevered rather thne steel post
windows to ceiling, steel beam space saving support
like the lighting and the iron (we think its iron) beams + wood
cantilevered steel beams to support deck overhang
Wanting to maximize outdoor space, Collins avoided using columns on the deck. Instead he designed this steel beam system to support the cantilevered roof and allow windows to extend all the way to the ceiling.

directions the steel beams supporting the roof are exposed, themselves sitting upon a slender round column that further defines the extents of the patio. A steel beam is also part of the mix, working as a header for a sliding door.
What are the connectors at the top of the upright beams? I am trying to find connectors not bigger than 4" wide for upright metal round supports just like these. Thanks.
Steel and wood- great mix of materials
supporting a steel beam, all painted black. These sit below floor beams running perpendicular. Note how the beam has an H-shaped section, but the columns are circular. Most steel beams use this section because it's most efficient in terms of material use, but columns can more readily vary in their shape.
Steel: Post&Beam to exposed rafters, skip sheathing, stained substraight
Black steel beam and wood under overhang
Steel joints provide more than just industrial-strength a
perpendicular steel beam. (The next photo looks at the column.) The wood members are rectangular, but the steel beam uses an H- or I-section, such that the material is distributed where it's needed: the flanges (top and bottom) and web (perpendicular piece connecting the flanges). This same economy of material
