Wood steps are gorgeous to look at but absolutely treacherous, especially for the elderly or for children who run everywhere at top speed. I always recommend installing a stair runner. For the stairs photographed

Great stairs! How did you achieve the up lighting?
Well this is an extremely old comment, but since it's unanswered... there is a gap between the steps & the wall where strip lighting has been inserted. I love the look, but dust settling in the gap would drive me insane.
