When restoring this barn we uncovered the date stone indicating the barn dates back to c.1820. The stone is a Pennsylvania field stone likely from the Chester County region. It was restored and repointed.

This split-rail fence is a rustic relative of the plank version. Its rough-hewn profile marries perfectly with the stone barn in the background.

Bank Barn Renovation
Bank Barn Renovation: Wynnewood, Pennsylvania Thick fieldstone stone walls and a solid hand hewed chestnut post and beam frame provide the existing structure. The Barn, built in 1862, is set into a gentle slope with an entry court and koi pond providing a new foreground to the house. The existing two
wood frame space, that once contained bails of hay, is enclosed to become the new entry, gallery and dining room. A large opening in the south facing stone wall connects the interior of the house to the landscape. The interior of the house plays like a big tree house. Lighted from above, all the rooms of

Farmhouse Addition
The form of the addition is evocative of a traditional Pennsylvania bank barn structure. A second floor deck, carved out of the copper 'forebay’, is covered with a glass skylight that empties via chain downspouts to river rock drainage beds below. Builder: Karl Snyder Photographer: Jeffrey Totaro
Windows are manufacturer's standard dark brown aluminum cladding (Pella, Architect Series), and all other materials, including stone, copper and cedar trim have a natural finish. The only actual paint color is the white trim on the existing farmhouse. Hope that helps!
i think i like the stone siding...

themselves. Natural stone (farmhouse, cottage, Frank Lloyd Wright) juxtaposed against a more modern use of metal. But, the metal is actually classic New England barn style standing seam roofing material, it's just being used in a more contemporary manner.

Barn Restoration in Harding Township, New Jersey
Barn Restoration in Harding Township, New Jersey

2. Rural appeal in New Jersey. This barn guest house/pool house by Arturo Palombo Architecture was one of Houzzers' favorite Houzz Tours so far. Built using the timbers from a historic (but about-to-fall-down) barn on the property, it suits the new landscape and pool to a T.
