There isn't a standard distance since most bedrooms don't have fireplaces... ...but you should allow at least 36" for a walkway and heat
If we were doing the mantel with the stone on the fireplace and wood floor and ceiling,I would be suggesting that a spruce beam mantel be installed and actually stain the mantel a dark color

The stone was sourced from a local stone yard. It is from Wisconsin or Illinois and is ledge stone.
