Hi. Beautiful room. Can you explain why the stone on the fireplace was not taken all the way up to the ceiling? I want to do a stone fireplace in my living room with 22' ceiling. Not sure if it'll be too much if I go all the way up. Thanks!

up!!! I think with the long stone columns on the side adding stone all the way up the fireplace would have been way too much. Plus with the breakup of color and texture you really show off the great chandelier. Great look!!!

did you use bead board in the upper part? I have a floor to ceiling great room and like the idea of the beadb vs all stone. I don't think I want such a dramatic focal point with all stone. Would you paint the beadb a lighter / darker shade of the wall paint? Thanks

I'd say its' stone for sure. How they would normally do this is have the stone on the wall set on top it and support it until the mortar is hard, then remove the support. The hearth looks a lot like harvest straw. http://www.houzz.com/photos/1842517/Harvest-Straw-details
