Stone with black shutters and white trim
House is tucked into contours with stone retaining walls and terraces. We can celebrate each spring with these glorious dogwoods in bloom.

My husband and I are currently considering purchasing a stone house. The current owners indicate no central air is needed because the house stays cooler in the summer and warmer in winter than wood structures. (Location is on the Connecticut shore). Has this been true
true in your experience? Also, the house is 200 years old - what is the most authentic roofing material?
Tell me the name of the stone and if available on E Coast
Our 140 year old stone house does stay much cooler. But once humidity gets inside it seems to hold it in much more. We do have central air and used it maybe 3 weeks this summer...in Western

Is this vintage stone or is it possible to purchase it, if so where.
Is this vintage stone or is it possible to purchase it, and if so where?
The home was built in 1913 and restored recently by our firm. The stone is a Mica Schist (locally also called Wissahickon Schist). While it is available, it is difficult to source. You could try contacting eastern Pennsylvania quarries. We wish you luck on your search

What company did the stone work please!!??
when someone built a Dutch Colonial Home and stained the house a shade of black with crisp white trim. Many people thought who in the world would paint a house black - but it was always stunning and classic. I love this house - love the stone with the siding - the setting is incredible. Bravo! Now
the type of stone work we will choose for finishing the exterior of the lower level. Tthank you for sharing your work and providing inspiration as lovely as this. E laine
Yes, it really is the stone colors that dictated the dark siding color. Also the fact that even though it is a house, it is a barn
It is New York fieldstone. We matched the mortar on the old stone house as closely as possible. The color of the mortar is usually determined by the color of the sand, in this case buff colored, used in the mortar mix. We often use a mixture of grey and white cement and sometimes white lime for a softer

Remodeling MasonryIf you're remodeling a stone building, find a mason experienced in working with stone, and try to find salvaged stone to use where you need to add on. By "toothing" in new stones (replacing stone in a zigzag pattern) and replacing the mortar, a good stonemason can make the addition
