Where can I find a tutorial on a DIY stone step like this?
What type of stone is used in the steps here?
Sorry, we don't share cost information like this. You should contact a mason or stone supplier who can give you all the information you need.
a real art which can't be taken lightly. Beside the risk of injury moving very heavy stones, you need to have a well designed base to deal with moisture in all seasons and a good eye for picking just the right stone for each situation. Good luck with your project.

Mid-level at Stair Tower
One of the more interesting projects on Houzz that alludes to James Turrell's Skyspaces is the Waterfront Residence, where a circular stone stair tower acts as an elbow upon which the wings of the house pivot. Even in this view across the tower at bridge level, there is the sense that light is entering

crafted new masonry, built from an authentic palette of local reclaimed materials, gives the garden a unified, established feel. Lichen-encrusted stone retaining walls define edges, thresholds, and overlooks, and thick slabs of salvaged granite embedded in the earth provide gathering terraces and pathways
Can you give more specifics on the composition of the stairs?

I'm sorry Lindsay; that project was done around 14 years ago, and we don't have that info anymore. The names of various types of stones will typically vary from source to source - best to take this image to your stoneyard and ask them for what they have that is similar. I know that

I love the stone and the water running down the center of it.
One of my favorite cylinders on Houzz is this stone stair that the rest of the house hinges upon (we can see three wings from here); it incorporates a fountain above a slender window.

Love the stone pavers and steps. What are they?
The colour variation is due to it being a natural stone product and adds interest to the paving areas. For a more consistent colour we would use a different paver or tile that had less variation.
Love the waterworks, the greenery and the stepping stone tiles. The vines are especially nice
Cool entry. Clean stone, use of water
Lots of stairs with no railing....code? Like the niches to sit with mood lighting.
Pattinson met the challenge of the lot's 7-foot height change with several tumbled travertine patios, each connected with elegant stone stairs. Curry leaf (Murraya koenigii, USDA zones 10 to 12) and lilly pilly (Syzygium spp) hedges help disguise the dramatic level changes, making the garden feel more
