this stove hood has a large metal top, is that inside the cupboard?
I am assuming that this hood can be externally vented. When I look at the picture of the hood online, it has a large extension piece at the top. Is that installed inside the cupboard?

What is the height of this range hood and how high is it set above the stove?
The hood can be vented through the top or the back. I don't know which installation was used in this case.

Why do some designers do a wider hood than range?
Wolf, the hood seems like the same width. Most likely an "insert" type range hood, with a stainless steel liner and custom-built cabinetry around the hood.
